Jean Monnet Chairs' encounter at the UPS:
Philippe Achilleas and Boglarka Koller
A special meeting took place on 12 October 2022 in vice-rector Boglárka Koller's office: two Jean Monnet Chairs met.
The only Jean Monnet Chair at the UPS, Vice-Rector Koller, welcomed Philippe Achilleas, professor at the University of Paris-Saclay, also Jean Monnet Chair. Professor Achilleas' main fields of interest are public international law, space law, telecommunications and media law.
The meeting was organised in the context of the European Space Policy Conference, which will take place between 13-14 October 2022. The Institute of Space Law and Policy of the Eötvös József Research Centre and the University of Paris-Saclay jointly organised the conference. Professor Achilleas will deliver a presentation on French space policy at the conference and plans to manage the same event in Paris next year together with UPS again.
Still, his visit to vice-rector Koller goes far beyond the conference itself. Balázs Bartóki-Gönczy, head of the institute, has enjoyed an excellent professional relationship with professor Achilleas for many years. The two institutions could strengthen their professional cooperation by extending this fruitful relationship.
At the vice-rector's meeting, professor Achilleas and the head of the institute presented the research fields in which the UPS and the University of Paris-Saclay could collaborate in the future. These are space law and policy, cyber law and policy, communications law, and media law. Both specific departments of the Faculty of Public Governance and International Studies and the Eötvös József Research Centre can be interested in a future relationship. The negotiating parties agreed that the basis for cooperation could be an Erasmus framework agreement, which they plan to conclude in the near future. The Erasmus agreement would facilitate the exchange and mobility of students, teachers and administrative staff. Joint applications for EU tenders can also deepen professional cooperation.
Thanks to the partners' commitment, UPS can soon add another important Western European partner institution to its network. This future cooperation fits in with the internationalisation efforts of our university.
